"Dedicated" answers one question: who else sends traffic through this IP right now? For a dedicated proxy the answer is nobody. Every request a website sees from that address is yours, so its per-IP rate limits are yours alone and its reputation moves only with what you do.
Why it matters
On a shared proxy, several customers split one address. If another customer hammers the site you care about, you inherit their block. Dedicated IPs remove that variable, which matters most for logged-in accounts, allowlisted access and any target with tight per-IP limits. They also tend to be unmetered, because nobody else is drawing on the same address's bandwidth.
Common confusion
Three words get used as if they meant the same thing:
- Dedicated: only you use it now.
- Static: the address does not change while you hold it. A dedicated IP is usually static, but a static IP can be shared.
- Fresh (sometimes sold as "virgin" or premium): nobody used it before you. A dedicated IP can have a history.
You cannot verify exclusivity from outside, but you can check history. If a newly bought dedicated IP is challenged on day one, look it up on a blocklist checker before blaming your code.
On ProxyHive
Dedicated ISP and datacenter IPs carry only your traffic and have no bandwidth cap. They are sold from a single IP, so you can buy exactly one; buying a single static IP walks through it, and dedicated vs shared proxies compares the plans side by side.
