How the numbers are worked out
- Each month you need traffic, we price that month's GB as one ProxyHive order on the live price list. A bigger order reaches a lower rate for the whole order: month 1 is 12 GB at $3.95/GB, $47.40. One order holds up to 50 GB, so a bigger month is split into several orders.
- Traffic never expires, so nothing you buy is lost. Your effective price is what you paid divided by the GB you bought.
- A plan charges its price every month, used or not. What is left at the end of the month is gone. Its effective price is everything you paid, overage included, divided by the GB you used.
- Cost per 1,000 successful requests is the effective price per GB, times the average response size in GB (1 GB is 1,000,000 KB), times 1,000, divided by the success rate. Failed requests use traffic too.
Why the price on the page is not the price you pay
A monthly plan sells an allowance at a rate that assumes you use all of it. When the month ends, what is left is gone, and the rate you paid for the GB you did use goes up. Uneven months make it worse: size the plan for your busy month and the quiet ones waste most of it; size it for the quiet month and the busy ones pay overage. ProxyHive residential traffic is sold as one-off orders that do not expire, up to 50 GB an order, with the volume rate applied to the whole order. The trade-off is stated plainly in residential proxy pricing, explained: a plan you fill every month can cost less per GB than we do. The calculator shows you which case you are in.
Static IPs have the same problem in another shape. Many vendors sell them in packs, so one IP from a ten-IP plan costs the whole plan. We sell from one IP, at $3.20/IP on the ISP line. The ISP proxy price comparison lists the smallest plans vendors sell, and the price list has every rung of ours. Rates hold for 12 months after purchase.
Questions
What is an effective price per GB?
Everything you paid divided by the GB you used. On a monthly plan that resets, the GB you did not use are still in what you paid, so a month at half the allowance doubles the price of every GB you did use.
How do I work out the cost per successful request?
Multiply the effective price per GB by the average response size in GB, then divide by the success rate. At 400 KB a response and a 90% success rate, each successful request uses about 0.00044 GB. Failed requests are in the sum because they use traffic too.
Does ProxyHive traffic expire?
No. Traffic never expires and neither does your balance, so the calculator counts no waste on our side. A GB bought in a quiet month is still there in a busy one.
Where do the figures come from?
Ours come from the same price list checkout charges, rung by rung, so the calculator cannot quote a price the order form would not. The other side comes only from what you type. We do not fill in, store or guess another vendor's prices.
